Academically speaking it was a eventful year. Our S.S.C. students were "Cause Aucelebre". They made us all proud with their excellent performance at the board examination. We achieved that most elusive "Golden Double" once more. Their results were cent percent. 403 students appeared and passed, and one of our students, Ms Mona Chitnis stood 14 th in the Merit list. We had 141 distinction; 173 - 1 st class; 83 - 2 nd class and 6 - pass classes. We place on record the efforts put in by our teachers.

Curricular and Extra Curricular: Besides preparing our students academically, we also expose them to as many competitions as possible; both school and inter - school.

Secondary Class

This year too many competitions were held. Many students appeared for scholarship exams and Master Abhishek Patil of Std. VII secured the scholarship. Many appeared for the MTS (Maharashtra Talent Search) and the NTS (National Talent Search) examinations and also the Mathematics (Ganit Sunbodh and Pravinya examinations). Master Shriniket and Katdare Tejas Vilas passed the NTS exam and were selected for the VIVA. Students were encouraged to take part in most of the activities conducted by the Nehru Science Centre and competitive exams like the Homi Bhabha young scientist examination, quiz and so on. In keeping with the spirit of competitions, various English, Hindi, Marathi, recitations, elocution and ex-tempore competitions were also held in the school. Winners were awarded certificates and unsuccessful ones were encouraged to do better next time. To sharpen the memory, Quiz competitions were organized, Inter class science contest was held and projects were exhibited through an exhibition. To encourage the artistic talents of our students, singing as well as pot painting competitions were also held.

Our little ones of Jr. and Sr. KG section also had competitions like singing, recitation and fancy dress and many more.

Every year our students appear for Inter-School drawing and painting competitions. Few of our students appeared for the Camelin Colour Contest and secured the Individual prizes, city level prizes and state level prizes too. Some of our students entered the Chitre Kala Niketan, Pune drawing contest and 30 students bagged the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in various categories. In the Swami Vivekanand Foundation ( Belgaum ). Drawing Contest, St. John secured 30 gold, 25 silver and 23 bronze medals. Every year many of our students appear for the Government Elementary and Intermediate drawing examination and the year 2002-2003 saw many of our students perform excellently. The pass percentage this year was 93%. In the elementary examination 15 students secured 'A' grades, 21-'B' grades and 80-'C' grades. Whilst in the Intermediate examination the pass percentage was 90, 17-students bagged the 'A' grade, 26-'B' grade and 73-'C' grades. An excellent performance indeed.

St. John firmly believes in the Maxim 'A healthy mind in a healthy body'. Our sports section is also growing stronger and stronger. The year 2002-2003 saw our young cricketers and young sportsmen and women do quite well.

Basket-ball:- Our under 16 yrs Girls team reached the semi-finals in the Inter-School Basketball Tournament held at Kalwa. In swimming 4 of our girls took part in the Inter-School Swimming Competition held at Kalwe and one of them Miss Roy stood 3 rd in the District Level Competition.

Cricket:- Our under 16 cricket team won the Inter-School, Taluka, District and Division Tournaments and were runners-up at N.T. Kelkar tournament held at Thane. The team won the 'Chatrvrand' cricket tournament held at Kalyan. They also went on to win the 'Nehal Inter School Cricket Tournament held at Mulund. The team under 15 won the H.T. Bhandari Cricket tournament held at Kalyan. One of our young cricketers Master Oninder Singh Gill was selected to represent Mumbai under 15 team. He along with Xavier Santigo and Nikhil Walaunj were selected for Maharashtra state under 16 cricket team for the school national cricket tournament held at Delhi in the year 2002

Many of our students participated in various Karate and Judo competitions winning medal, certificates and trophies.

All these various activities and the success would not have been possible had it not been for the tremendous and selfless efforts of the teachers concerned, indeed they rightly and truly deserve our thanks and appreciation, not forgetting the support by the Principal and somewhere behind all these successes and efforts was the strong moral backing and trust of all our parents and guardians. Thank you dear parents for your help and good will.
