The ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST
HIGH SCHOOL, THANE and JR.COLLEGE is affiliated
to the Mumbai Division Board of Secondary
and Higher Education. It is situated in Thane
town of Thane District. It was started as
Primary School in 1905. We had the school
recognised by the Education Department as
an English Teaching High School in 1938.
St. John the Baptist
high School is a Christian School/College
established and administered by the Roman
Catholic Archdiocese of Mumbai. The School/College
is under the religious jurisdiction of the
Roman Catholic Bishop of Mumbai. It is affiliated
to the Catholic Archdiocesan Board of Education.
The School/College aims
at the education primarily of the Catholic
community around and to the extent possible
of the members of all the communities. The
School/College stands for academic excellence,
development of skills, and character formation
based on the love of God and service of
as modelled in Jesus Christ, with a view
to training citizens distinguished for their
all round development and commitment to
God and Country.
The school prepares students
for the Secondary School Certificate Examinations
and for Government Elementary and Intermediate
Drawing Examinations. The course of studies,
besides the usual academic subjects includes,
Moral Science. It trains pupils in Elocution,
singing, Parliamentary Debates, Social Work,
Dramatic Performances, Sports and games.
Due to demand from the
public, the school has been admitting girls
from June 1979 onwards and is full-fledged
co-educational institution as it was before
1970.
At the insistent request
of the Educational Department, a Junior
College has been attached to the High School
from June, 1979.
The Primary purpose
of the school is to provide Catholic Education
for Catholic children. However, pupils of
other denominations are also admitted and
their religious feelings and freedom of
conscience are duly respected without sacrificing
the Christian Character of the institution.
Thorough attention is given to the mortal
and spiritual formation of all, besides
academic, social and physical development.
